Video engagement on the Zoho contact record

Launch a personalized video campaign in Zidi and every recipient is looked up in Zoho CRM by email address, then created as a Contact if your org does not already have one. When that person opens the video, Zidi writes a note on their record saying so, and another when they finish it or press the call-to-action.

It is built for the rep who lives in Zoho and should not have to open a second tool to learn whether the video was watched. Everything arrives on the Notes tab of the contact they already have open.

How to connect Zoho

  1. 1

    Choose your Zoho data centre

Open Integrations in Zidi and pick the Zoho card. Zidi asks which data centre hosts your org before anything else: United States, Europe, India, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada or Saudi Arabia. The answer decides which Zoho sign-in page you are sent to, and it is the one step people get wrong.

  2. 2

    Approve the connection in Zoho

Zidi sends you to the accounts page for that region. The consent screen lists four permissions: full access to contacts and to notes, permission to manage field settings so Zidi can prepare the org, and read-only access to deals. Approve it with a Zoho user who can see the contacts you plan to sync.

  3. 3

    Come back and launch

Zoho returns you to Zidi with the connection stored against your region's API domain. There is nothing to install in Zoho, no extension and no marketplace step. Your next campaign launch starts writing.

Connecting is on the Zidi Pro plan, and the check runs on the server rather than only in the interface, so a workspace that is not on Pro cannot start the flow. Pick the wrong region and the sign-in simply fails, because each Zoho data centre keeps its own accounts and its own API domain; disconnect and reconnect with the right one.

What syncs, and when

What happens in ZidiWhat appears in Zoho CRM
Campaign launchedZidi searches your contacts for the recipient's email address and creates the Contact when there is no match. A note titled with your campaign name carries their personalized video link, and their company when your list supplies one.
Recipient opens their video pageA note titled “Zidi: Video Page Opened” lands on the contact, with the time they opened it.
Recipient finishes the video or clicks the call-to-actionA note titled “Zidi: Video Engagement” records the highest percentage they reached, whether they pressed the button, and the milestones they passed on the way.
Someone you know opens a directly shared videoOne note is created when they pass half the video, and that same note is rewritten as they pass eighty per cent and then finish. Zoho has to know the contact already: this path adds notes but never creates a record.

Zoho needs a surname before it will create a contact, so when your list has none Zidi uses the first name, or the part of the email address before the @, rather than dropping the recipient. Writes are queued rather than instant, and campaign engagement is held for about a minute per person so a burst of clicking produces one entry instead of ten. The directly shared path is not held that way; it is deduplicated per view and milestone instead. Only people Zidi can identify reach Zoho at all: campaign recipients, and viewers who arrive on a tracked share link. Anonymous views stay in your Zidi analytics.

Which data centre, and why Zidi asks

Zoho is eight separate clouds wearing one name. An org created in India lives at zoho.in and answers a different API domain from one created in Germany at zoho.eu, and an access token minted in one is meaningless in the other. That is why the region selector comes before the sign-in button rather than after it: Zidi has to know which accounts service to send you to, and which domain to call afterwards. Look at the address bar while you are signed in to Zoho and the answer is in front of you. The list Zidi offers covers the United States, Europe, India, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada and Saudi Arabia, which is every region Zoho runs today.

Choosing wrongly is inconvenient, not dangerous. The sign-in fails or the org looks empty, and you disconnect and start again with the right one. Nothing is written to the wrong place, because the token you were issued only ever addressed the region you picked.

What a rep sees, and what Zidi leaves alone

Three note titles, and that is the entire vocabulary. Your campaign name introduces the personalized link, “Zidi: Video Page Opened” marks the moment someone arrived, and “Zidi: Video Engagement” closes the story with the percentage watched and whether the call-to-action was pressed. Each of the last two carries the campaign name after it, so a contact in three campaigns keeps them apart. Zoho is the only one of these integrations whose API gives a note a title of its own, which is why the story reads so cleanly here. There is no custom module to install, no tab to add to a profile and no report to build before the information is visible.

Zidi writes contacts and notes, and nothing else. It creates no deals, no tasks and no accounts, so whatever pipeline your team runs is untouched by the fact that a video was watched. Matching happens one way, by email address, from Zidi into Zoho; Zidi never reads your lists or pulls records back. The one thing that does change on a contact you already had is the name and company on the record, which are refreshed from the campaign list at launch so the personalization in the video matches the person it greets.

Zoho integration questions

Which Zidi plan includes it?

Zoho syncing is on the Zidi Pro plan. The check runs on the server three times over: when you start the connection, when Zoho hands you back, and again every time Zidi is about to write. If a workspace stops being Pro the writing stops but the connection stays in place, so going back to Pro resumes it without a reconnect.

Does Zidi add fields to my Zoho org?

It prepares five custom fields on the Contact module the first time you launch a campaign, and they stay empty. Everything a rep needs is in the notes instead, which is why the page describes notes and not fields. Treat the fields as reserved space rather than data to build on: do not point a workflow rule or a report at them, because nothing fills them in today.

Will my contacts be duplicated?

No. Zidi searches by email address first and only creates a contact when the search comes back empty, so a person your org already knows is matched rather than copied. On the direct-share path a single note is created and then rewritten as the viewer passes each threshold, which is why one person watching one video twice does not leave a trail of near-identical entries.

How quickly does engagement show up?

Within about a minute of the activity, not instantly. Engagement is deliberately held for a short window per person so that someone scrubbing back and forth through a video produces one meaningful note rather than a stream of them. Writes are queued and retried if Zoho is briefly unavailable, so a hiccup on either side delays a note rather than losing it.

Can I see who watched without being identified?

Anonymous viewers are counted in your Zidi analytics but never reach Zoho, because there is no email address to attach them to. Only campaign recipients and people arriving through a tracked share link produce CRM writes. If you want everything a video does to land on a record, send it as a campaign rather than as an open link.

What happens when I disconnect?

Zidi revokes the connection at Zoho, deletes the stored tokens and marks the integration inactive, so no further writes are possible. The notes and contacts already in your org stay exactly where they are, because they are ordinary Zoho records rather than something Zidi keeps a claim on. Reconnecting later starts a fresh grant.
