Monday.com integration

Video engagement as updates on your Monday board

Pick a board, paste an API token, and every recipient of a Zidi video campaign becomes an item on that board. Opening the video adds an update to their item; finishing it or pressing the call-to-action adds another with the percentage they reached.

Monday has no contact object, so this integration speaks in the units Monday actually uses. Items are people, updates are the history, and the board you choose is where the campaign lives.

How to connect Monday.com

  1. 1

    Generate a personal API token

Monday.com issues personal API tokens from your own account area; generate one and copy it. The token carries your permissions rather than the workspace's, so use an account that can already see and edit the board you intend to sync to.

  2. 2

Paste the token into Zidi and pick a board

Open Integrations in Zidi, choose Monday.com and paste the token. Zidi reads back the first fifty boards the token can reach and asks you to choose one; if the board you want is not in the list, a token from an account with narrower access will surface it. Saving without choosing is refused, because a write with no destination has nowhere to go.

  3. 3

Check the board has an email column

Zidi matches people by email address, so the board needs a column to match on before your first launch. Add one if it is missing, then launch the campaign.

The integration is on the Zidi Pro plan, checked on the server before the token is stored and again before each write. The board is chosen once, when the token is saved, and belongs to the Zidi account that connected it rather than to the workspace as a whole; to move to a different board, reconnect and pick the new one. The token is stored encrypted and the board choice is stored alongside it.

What syncs, and when

What happens in ZidiWhat appears on your board
Campaign launchedZidi searches your chosen board for an item whose email column holds the recipient's address. If nothing matches it creates an item named after the person, or after the part of their address before the @ when your list has no name. An update carries the personalized video link.
Recipient opens their video pageAn update is posted on that item. Its body opens with “Zidi Video Engagement” and your campaign name, and notes that they arrived and when.
Recipient finishes the video or clicks the call-to-actionA second update, beginning with the same line, records the furthest point they reached, the milestones behind it and whether the button was pressed.
Someone you know opens a directly shared videoOne update is posted when they pass halfway and edited in place as they reach eighty per cent and the end, so a single viewing leaves a single entry. The item needs to be on the board first; a shared view adds updates, not rows.

A Monday update is a body of text with no title, so both updates start with the words “Zidi Video Engagement” and the detail follows underneath. Zidi finds the column for you by scanning the board and taking the first column that is either of the email type, titled email, or identified as email — whichever of those it meets first, reading left to right. Writes are queued rather than immediate, and campaign engagement is held for about a minute per recipient, so someone skipping through a video produces one update instead of several. Shared-link views are not held; they are deduplicated per view and milestone. Only viewers Zidi can identify reach your board at all; anonymous views are counted in Zidi analytics and stop there.

Why the email column decides everything

Matching is the whole game, and Monday boards are freeform. Two teams can build boards for the same purpose and end up with entirely different column names and types, which is why Zidi does not assume yours looks like anybody else's. Before it writes, it reads your board's columns and takes the first one that is of the email type, or is titled email, or carries email as its identifier. It is a single pass in board order rather than a ranked preference, so a text column called Email sitting to the left of a real email column is the one that wins; if you have both, put the real one first. If none of the three exists there is nothing to match against, and every launch will add a new item rather than finding the person you already have. Adding a single email column before the first campaign is the difference between a board that stays clean and one that grows a duplicate every time you send.

The item name is a label, not the key. Rename items freely; matching continues to work because it never depended on what the item was called.

Reading engagement on a board built for work

Updates are Monday's activity feed, and that is where the video story belongs. Open an item and the sequence reads in order: here is the personalized link that went out, here is the moment they opened it, here is how far they got and whether they pressed the button. Nothing is hidden in a column that has to be added to a view first, and nothing needs a dashboard widget before it can be seen. Because the updates are ordinary Monday updates, the automations you already use can react to them — notify the owner when an item gets a new update, or move an item to another group once the follow-up is done.

The trade-off is that watch percentage is prose, not a column value. Zidi writes no column values beyond the email it matches on, so a Monday automation cannot branch on someone having watched more than half. If that kind of branching is the point of the exercise, ActiveCampaign's engagement tags are the better fit, and both can run at once.

Monday.com integration questions

Can I sync to more than one board?

One board is stored per Zidi account, chosen when you paste the token, and every campaign that account launches writes to it. A teammate who connects Monday.com separately picks their own board, so agree on one between you if the whole team should land in the same place. To change boards, reconnect and pick the new one; existing items and updates stay where they are.

What if my board has no email column?

Matching has nothing to work with, so each launch creates a new item instead of finding the person again. Add a column of the email type, or one titled email, before your first campaign. Zidi looks the columns up on every write, so adding the column later fixes future launches without any change on the Zidi side.

Does Zidi create contacts, or just items?

Items. Monday has no contact object, so a recipient is represented by an item on the board you chose, with their address in the email column and the history in the item's updates. Anyone used to a CRM should read item where they would normally read contact record.

Will my board fill up with duplicates?

Not when the email column is present. Zidi searches that column before creating anything and reuses the item it finds, so re-sending to the same list adds updates to existing items rather than new rows. On the directly shared path a single update is edited in place as the viewer passes each threshold, for the same reason.

Which permissions does the token need?

The token inherits the permissions of the person who generated it, so it must belong to someone who can see and edit the target board. A token from a user without access to that board will fail on write, and the failure is recorded in Zidi rather than passing silently.

Which Zidi plan is required?

Pro. The check runs on the server when the token is saved and again before every write. A workspace that leaves Pro stops writing to the board and keeps the connection and the board choice, so returning to Pro resumes it without picking the board again.
