See Who Watched Your Video, Right on the Copper Person Record

See Who Watched Your Video, Right on the Copper Person Record

A sales video is only useful if you learn who watched it. Send a proposal walkthrough to twenty People in Copper and, a day later, the honest answer to "who should I call first?" is usually a guess. Zidi's Copper integration removes the guess. With Activities & automations on, each step of a campaign recipient's watch is written back to their Person record: an activity for the step, a tag you can filter on, and an engagement field that Copper's own automations can act on.

This post shows what lands in Copper, how to connect the two, and a flow built for teams that already send from Copper: Copper sends one email with a personal video link per Person, and Zidi reports back who watched, how far, and who clicked. The connection takes a few minutes, and the Copper setup guide covers the rest.

What appears on the Person record

With Activities & automations on, Zidi writes three kinds of things to a Person, and each has a different reader in Copper. Activities go on the Person's activity feed, where a rep reads them. Tags feed the People list filters. Custom fields feed Workflow Automations and saved filters, which is where Copper can act without anyone watching.

The activities use five Zidi activity types, created in your Copper workspace when you turn on Activities & automations: Zidi Video Opened, Zidi Video 50%, Zidi Video 80%, Zidi Video Completed, and Zidi CTA Clicked. A Person who watched a whole video and clicked the button ends up with all five, in order, each stamped with the video title, the campaign name and the time. Because they are proper activity types rather than notes, a rep scanning a record sees the shape of the engagement at a glance.

The tags mirror the same steps: zidi-video-opened, zidi-video-50, zidi-video-80, zidi-video-completed and zidi-cta-clicked, plus one tag per campaign so you can pull up everyone a given send went to. Tags need nothing created in advance, so they are the path that always works.

The fields are the part built for automation. Zidi Engagement is a dropdown that moves through Sent, Opened, Watched and Hot. Zidi Watch % holds how far the viewer got: on a campaign link, the share of the video actually played in one visit, so skipping ahead does not count; on a shared video, the furthest point reached. Zidi CTA Clicked is Yes or No. Zidi Last Video and Zidi Last Viewed record the most recent title, with its campaign name, and the date. Zidi Video Link holds that Person's own tracking link, which is what makes the Copper-sends flow below work.

The levels are deliberately simple. Sent means the link exists and nothing has happened yet. Opened means the video page was opened. Watched means at least half the video was played. Hot means the viewer watched at least 95% of the video and clicked the call to action, which is the moment a rep should pick up the phone. Within a campaign a Person only moves up, never down. A new campaign starts that Person at Sent again, and a shared video they watch rewrites the fields too, so the fields describe the latest video Zidi tracked for them.

Connecting Copper to Zidi

In Zidi, open Integrations, choose Copper, and click Connect with Copper. Copper asks you to authorize Zidi against your workspace, and that is the whole connection. There is no key to copy, and nothing to renew, because Copper does not currently expire the sign-in. The connection uses Copper's API, which Copper makes available on its trial, Professional and Business plans (support.copper.com, read September 2026).

Connect as a Copper admin if you can. Zidi creates its activity types and custom fields in your workspace when you turn the write-back on, and Copper only lets admins create those. If the connecting user is not an admin, Zidi still works: engagement is logged as Notes plus tags, and the Copper card names the items an admin still has to create. Once they exist, click Re-check Copper setup on the card and Zidi picks them up by name.

The write-back to activities, tags and fields lives in the Activities & automations section of the Copper card. Click Enable activities & automations, and the card confirms when every Zidi activity type and field is present in your Copper. The Copper integration is part of the Zidi Pro plan; the pricing page has the current details.

Flow one: Zidi sends the video

The simplest video campaign is the one Zidi runs end to end. Create a campaign, pick a video, add recipients, and launch. At launch each recipient is created in Copper as a Person, or matched to an existing one by email, and gets a Note with the campaign name and their personal link. After launch, you send the emails from Zidi through your own mail server (SMTP), set up once in Settings.

From then on, engagement flows back on its own. With Activities & automations on, the activities, tags and fields on a recipient's Person record catch up with what they did, within a few minutes of their last activity. With it off, Copper gets a Note if someone opens their page and has not started the video when Zidi syncs, about a minute later, and another when they finish or click the call to action. Nobody exports a spreadsheet, and nobody has to remember to log the view.

Flow two: Copper sends, Zidi reports

The second flow came out of conversations with teams whose email already goes out from Copper, through Bulk Email or an Email Automation, and who do not want a second sending tool. Bulk Email, Email Automations and Workflow Automations come with Copper's Professional and Business plans (copper.com, read September 2026).

Start the campaign in Zidi as before, and under Who sends the email? choose Copper sends. Instead of typing recipients, use Import from Copper and pick a tag or a contact type. Zidi pulls those People in together with their Copper ids, up to 2,000 recipients per campaign on the Pro plan, so nothing is duplicated on either side.

Launch writes to Copper and sends nothing. If the Zidi fields exist in your Copper, every imported Person receives the campaign tag, their own link in the Zidi Video Link field, a Note with the campaign name and the link, and Zidi Engagement set to Sent. Keep Activities & automations on: without it, the watch itself produces only Notes.

Only a Copper admin can create those fields, so turn on Activities & automations before you launch and check the Copper card. It confirms when every Zidi activity type and field is present, or lists what an admin still has to create; once they exist, click Re-check Copper setup. A launch without the Zidi Video Link field still tags each Person and adds the Note, but the merge field in the next step stays empty.

In Copper, filter People by the campaign tag, save the filter, select them, and send a Bulk Email that inserts the Zidi Video Link merge field. Each Person gets one email with a link that is theirs alone, so Zidi already knows who the viewer is when the page opens. Copper's Bulk Email goes to up to 200 contacts per send (copper.com, read September 2026), so a larger list goes out in batches or through an Email Automation on the saved filter. Campaign links report views for 90 days after launch by default, so send within that window.

Now the automations. A Workflow Automation on Person with the trigger Specific field is updated and the condition Zidi Engagement is Hot can create a task for the owner once someone finishes the video and clicks through. Copper runs Workflow Automations on changes made through its API, which is how Zidi writes the fields. A saved filter on Zidi CTA Clicked equals Yes can drive an Email Automation: Copper emails each Person who newly matches it within the hour, on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in your company's time zone. Nobody has to step in.

A video watched outside any campaign reports back too, with less detail, when Zidi knows who the viewer is: someone you shared it with through a tracking link, or anyone signed in to Zidi. With Activities & automations on, it logs the 50%, 80% and completed activities and refreshes the engagement fields; with it off, it logs one Note once the viewer passes 50% and updates that Note as they get further. CTA clicks, the Zidi Video Link field and the Hot level belong to campaigns.

What Zidi will not do in Copper

Zidi adds and updates; it never deletes. It creates People it cannot match by email, and on People it did match it writes the activities or Notes, tags and fields described above, plus the launch Note. It does not change a Person's name, company or owner. Disconnecting in Zidi stops the sync and leaves every record exactly as it was, history included.

That restraint is on purpose. A CRM sync earns trust by being boring: the same few fields, written the same way, every time. Everything else, from the saved filter to the task that gets created, stays in Copper where your team already works.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a Copper admin to connect? No. Copper's developer documentation says its sign-in is open to all users, not just admins. Without admin rights, though, Zidi cannot create its activity types and fields, so Activities & automations logs engagement as Notes with tags. Connecting as an admin lets Zidi create its five activity types and six custom fields, which gives each step its own activity type and gives Copper's automations fields to act on. The Copper-sends flow needs the Zidi Video Link field in particular, so set it up before you launch one. The Copper card lists anything an admin still has to create by hand, and Re-check Copper setup picks them up once they exist.

How quickly does engagement show up in Copper? Within a few minutes of the viewer's last activity. Zidi gathers the viewing signals for a Person and writes them in one pass, so the record shows how much they played rather than a stream of tiny updates.

Can Copper send the email instead of Zidi? Yes. Choose Copper sends when you create the campaign, import the audience from Copper by tag or contact type, and launch. Zidi writes each Person's own link into the Zidi Video Link field and sends nothing, so you send from Copper's Bulk Email or an Email Automation using that merge field.

What does Hot mean on the Zidi Engagement field? The viewer watched at least 95% of the video and clicked the call to action. It is the strongest signal Zidi has and the one to build a task automation on. Watched means at least half the video was played, Opened means the page was opened, and Sent means the link exists but nothing has happened yet.

I connected Copper with an API key earlier. Do I need to change anything? Yes. API-key connections are being retired in favor of signing in with Copper. The Copper card shows a Reconnect with Copper button; clicking it switches the connection over and keeps your existing sync history.

Which Zidi plan includes the Copper integration? The Pro plan. Recording and sharing are on every plan, and CRM integrations, Copper included, are part of Pro. The pricing page has the current figures.
