CRM sync (one-way)

Writing video engagement into a CRM record, in one direction, matched to a contact by email address.

CRM sync in this context means writing what happened to a video onto the matching record in a customer relationship management system. Nearly all of these integrations are one-way: the video platform writes into the CRM and reads nothing back except enough to find the right record.

Matching is almost always done on email address, because it is the one field that reliably identifies a person across systems. This has a consequence people miss: an anonymous viewer cannot be synced, since there is no address to match against.

What gets written varies. The usual form is a note or activity on the contact — a timeline entry saying that this person watched this video and how far they got. Some platforms also write structured fields, which allows filtering and automation but requires the fields to exist and be populated.

"Two-way sync" is a phrase to treat carefully in this category. It normally describes reading contacts out of a CRM to build a send list, not writing back and forth continuously, and the distinction matters to anyone worried about a video tool modifying their pipeline.

When a sync appears to be missing, the cause is nearly always one of three things, and they are worth checking in order. The viewer may have been anonymous, in which case there was no record to write to. The email address on the campaign may not match the one on the CRM record. Or the writing may be queued rather than instant, and the note is a minute away rather than absent.

In Zidi

Zidi writes engagement into eight CRMs — Copper, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Close, Freshsales, Monday.com and ActiveCampaign — in one direction, matched by email address, as notes or activities on the record.
